Nutritional Tip #5: The Benefits Of Snacks

I can tell you're relieved to see this post lol. Just because we're trying to eat healthier doesn't mean we have to take away our snacks.

As a young individual trying to focus on improving my diet, i’ve come to value the appreciation of snacks. When you change your main foods to be suited towards a healthier style, it’s nice to get the relief of a taster snack.

With that being said, it’s important to remember moderation when planning your post meal snacks. What I mean by moderation is, don’t ruin the hard work you’re putting into eating healthier by outweighing your actual meals with your snacks.

An example of this may look like:

Lunch: Chicken breasts, peas, and a yogurt.

Post Lunch Snack: 1/2 a tub of ice cream and half a bag of teddy grahams

Ok half a tub of ice cream may be excessive lol. Though you have to be honest, it’s not impossible after a hard enough practice (we’ve all been there).

The point is, don’t let your snacks outdo all the work you’ve put into eating healthier meals throughout your daily life. Have some consideration about the snacks you’re going to consume and if they appropriately fall into your healthier diet.

An example of healthier eating choices may look like:

Lunch: Chicken breasts, peas, and a yogurt.

Post Lunch Snack: Bowl of chips, some fruit, and some granola mix

A helpful tip is stay healthier is have more than one variety of snack. By adding more than one option (like a snack plate), you can gain a wider range of nutrients while enjoying the snacks you like to consume.

You're still a young athlete so moderation for your diet doesn’t mean a complete lack of sugar or good snacks, you just want to start being mindful of the things you consume to gain the best athletic potential.

Have any questions?

Please put them in the comments and i’d love to get back to you as soon as I can :)

Thank you for reading,

Kolton Osborn.
