Being able to properly visualize is a HUGE benefits for athletes in all aspects of your training / competing life.
Not only will it help you run through stressful situations to help you prepare, but it’ll also give you opportunities to create a better plan to produce the best results.
However, being able to use visualization is a double edged sword.
It’s CRUCIAL to have a positive mindset towards the thoughts you’re putting forward or else you could create a negative visualization (which we don’t want).
Does that mean you should create a fake scenario where you drop a 9.99 on your season opener ? No of course not lol. Being realistic is very important.
Although accounting for bad possibilities is completely normal when visualizing your success, it’s important to not turn them into stressors.
The main purpose for visualization is to help you get a better understanding of what you're about to do and allow you to properly prepare both mentally and physically for it. This method works for every aspect of your athletic life (practice, dieting, competing, recovery, etc).
Just make sure at the end of your visualization you come out on top with a positive mindset and a clear image of your victory :).
