In this section we’ve covered a few tips on how to maintain a positive mindset and how to use that to our advantage. Now it’s time to discuss keeping that viewpoint when you deal with failure or hardships.
Now I completely understand, if you do bad in a race in front of your team and your family it’s quite hard to think of a positive outcome from that (been there, not a fan). However, that’s exactly why it’s crucial to find a way to keep your spirits high in an outcome like that.
In order to maintain a positive mindset and not succumb to the rush of negative thoughts from your performance, try utilizing any of the before mentioned tips to keep a controlled state of mind:
Singular Focus: “Well I didn’t run good but I did a good job focusing on _”
At Least I’m Not: “That wasn’t I could’ve run but i’m just glad I was able to get out here today and be able to run.”
Beneficial Thinking: “I could’ve done better on my race but at least that showed me that I need to focus more on _ and _ at practice.”
Don't let the taste of defeat ruin your mind state when it could be used as fuel for your positive mentality.
The moment you let yourself shift your mindset into a negative one, you’re putting yourself in a damaging environment that won’t help you get the results you want on the track (and we don’t want that at all). Find ways to look at your bad results and use them as a blueprint to plan your way to success.
As i’ve said before, it’s a lot more beneficial to stay in a positive mindset than a negative (even the days it’s hard to accomplish that, that’s when it’s most important to).
Have any questions?
Please put them down in the comments and i’ll be sure to get back to you as soon as I can :).
