Mindset Tips #3: "At least I'm Not __"

Teaching yourself to be grateful can go a long way with keeping a positive mindset.

Although it may not seem all the time (especially on those hard workout days), we are very grateful to be given the opportunity of devoting so much of our lives towards a sport.

By acknowledging that, you can convince yourself even on lowest of days that you’re lucky to be given that chance to be an athlete. The freedom of being able to dedicate a portion of your life to sports isn’t shared throughout the world. Due to that, being grateful to be one of those lucky individuals can make the pain of repeat 200s a little lighter (even if it doesn’t feel like it lol).

A great way to implement this way of thinking is by applying it to any negative thought that comes across your mind during all aspects of your athletic life.

An example of that might look like:

Initial thought: “Man I don’t want to go to practice today, i’m just so tired and want to take a nap instead .”

Positive argument: “Many people aren’t given the opportunity to be on this team and enjoy all this sport has to offer, why am I sitting here complaining about getting that chance?”

After thought: “Good point, I have to stop getting myself down. This workout is about to be destroyed, LETS DO THIS!”

Believe me, this may all seem corny or stupid to some individuals as they read this thinking this method of thinking doesn’t need to be applied to them. However, unless you can maintain a positive mindset throughout all points of your training, there’s no reason to not try something new and see if it improves your perspective.

I’ve said it before but i’ll say it again, don’t knock it til you try it.
